The 8 Spiritual Gifts Everyone Has: Discover Your Soul Specialties

Woman journaling at a desk, exploring spiritual gifts and Soul Specialties

You know that person who always seems to know exactly what to say when you’re going through something hard? Not rehearsed advice — more like they can feel what you need before you’ve even said it out loud.

Or the friend whose gut instincts are almost annoyingly accurate — the one who “just had a feeling” about that job, that relationship, that decision — and turned out to be right every single time.

What if I told you that you have those same abilities?

Not as some far-off potential. Right now. Today. You’re already using them — you just might not have a name for what you’re doing.

What Are Soul Specialties?

Soul Specialties are eight spiritual strengths that every person possesses. They’re not mystical powers reserved for psychics or healers — they’re practical, natural parts of who you are. You don’t need any particular spiritual background or religious belief to recognize them. They’re universal.

You tend to lead with one or two. But all eight are available to you at any time. Think of them as areas where you naturally operate at a higher level — spheres of ability woven into the way you move through life.

Here’s what they look like:

Channel

Being in the zone. In the flow. That state where ideas come effortlessly and everything just clicks — while working on a project, having a conversation, or creating something. Time disappears. The right words, the right moves, the right ideas just arrive. You might hear the melody before you play it or see the finished project in your mind before you’ve started. That’s Channel — and it’s the foundation all the other specialties build on.

Empathy

Feeling others’ emotions, energy, and even physical experiences. You walk into a room and pick up on the mood before anyone says a word. You feel what others are going through — sometimes as heaviness in your chest, sometimes as a shift in your own energy that you can’t explain.

If you’ve ever been told you’re “too sensitive” or you absorb everyone else’s stress, that’s not a flaw. That’s Empathy at work. It’s one of your most powerful gifts — the key is learning to recognize it and manage it so it doesn’t drain you.

Intuition

Inner knowing. Your gut feeling. That quiet voice that says something’s off or this is right before your mind has caught up with the logic.

Intuition shows up differently for different people. Some see flashes of insight — mental images that provide information they didn’t logically have. Some feel it as a physical sensation, a pull in the gut or pressure in the chest. Some hear a quiet inner voice. And some just know — a calm certainty that arrives without any image, feeling, or sound attached to it.

These different ways of receiving intuitive information are real and distinct. Whichever way shows up most naturally for you is your intuitive language. Julie’s own journey with intuition started before age ten — and she’s spent decades learning how to listen to it and teach others to do the same.

Medium

Communicating with people on the other side and sensing spiritual presences. This one makes some people uncomfortable, and that’s okay. It’s simply the ability to perceive what exists beyond the physical — hearing a name or message, sensing a presence, or receiving images connected to someone who has passed.

Healer

Healing energy and qualities. You know people who make you feel better just by being around them? That’s a form of healing. It doesn’t require a certification or a practice — it’s an energy some people carry naturally. You might notice your hands get warm when you’re near someone who’s hurting, or people consistently tell you they feel lighter after spending time with you.

Teacher

Illuminating, educating and sharing information in a way that actually lands. If people regularly come to you for advice or you find yourself breaking down complex things so others can understand them, you’re in Teacher mode. The gift isn’t just knowing things. It’s knowing exactly how to explain them so someone else gets it in the way they need to hear it.

Connector

Bringing people together. Collaborating, creating community, linking someone who needs help with someone who can provide it. Connectors see relationships between people that others miss. You just know these two people need to meet — even if you can’t explain why. That instinct to bridge, to introduce, to build networks of support — that’s Connector.

Light Being

Simply being the light. Shining. This one isn’t about doing — it’s about being. Some people walk into a room and the energy shifts. They’re not performing. They’re just present and authentic. That’s Light Being — and it’s the natural result of all the other specialties working together. As you become more aware of each gift and strengthen it, you carry more light. And you shine more brightly.

You’re Already Using Them

Here’s what surprises most people: you don’t need to acquire these. You’re not missing anything. You’ve been using your Soul Specialties your entire life — explaining a recipe to a friend (Teacher), sitting quietly with someone who’s hurting (Healer), making an introduction that changes someone’s trajectory (Connector), trusting a gut feeling that turned out to be right (Intuition).

These moments might seem small. But by their nature, a lot more is happening than you realize. Each specialty operates at a higher frequency. How do you know? Think about how you feel when you’re using one — more centered, more clear-headed, more purposeful. That lightness is your signal.

How They Work Together

The eight specialties aren’t separate, isolated abilities. They’re interconnected and work together as a system — a synergy where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Channel is the foundation. And the way you receive information through each specialty varies — some specialties speak through feelings in your body, others through sudden knowing, others through images or sounds. Your inner light grows as you strengthen each one. The more you use your Soul Specialties consciously, the better you feel. And the better you feel, the more life works for you.

This isn’t abstract. It shows up in real decisions, real relationships, real daily moments. The journey of discovering these gifts is deeply personal — and once you start recognizing them, something shifts. You feel more confident. You stop second-guessing yourself as much. Creative ideas come more easily. You handle disruptions with less stress.

How Do I Know Which Ones I Lead With?

Pay attention to what comes most naturally.

If you absorb others’ emotions easily — if you feel what the room feels before anyone speaks — Empathy is likely one of your leads. If you get strong gut feelings that prove accurate, Intuition is probably dominant. If people constantly seek you out for advice or explanations, Teacher might be your lead. If you find yourself making connections between people without thinking about it, that’s Connector.

Your strongest specialty is usually the one you’ve relied on your entire life without realizing it had a name.

The 8 Soul Specialties are Channel, Empathy, Intuition, Medium, Healer, Teacher, Connector, and Light Being. Each represents a distinct spiritual strength that shows up differently in your daily life and relationships.

How do I know which spiritual gift is my strongest?

Pay attention to what comes most naturally. If you absorb others’ emotions easily, Empathy may be your lead. If you get strong gut feelings that prove accurate, Intuition is likely dominant.
