As a Kansas native, The Wizard of Oz is a familiar story and one that resonates with me. I’ve watched it countless times. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that Dorothy’s journey is more than just a childhood classic—it’s a metaphor for each of our personal growth.
Let’s follow the yellow brick road together, using Dorothy’s adventure as a mirror for your transformation and success.
The Yellow Brick Road: The Path of Self-Discovery
This yellow brick road represents your journey through self-discovery.
Self-help, spiritual practice, therapy, meditation, or simply setting daily intentions. It doesn’t matter which path you take. The path of self-awareness leads to personal growth and healing. Each step you take moves you closer to your goal. You release fears, negative beliefs and patterns, which allows you to gain confidence, trust, peace and joy.
On this road, you’ll connect with your divine essence—the you that’s always been there underneath the noise, your true Self.
The Wicked Witch: Your Wounds, Trauma & Limiting Beliefs
The Wicked Witch symbolizes all that holds you back—your trauma, your pain, your fear, your limiting beliefs. Your Ego.
She is a metaphor for what holds you back, for what keeps you from connecting to your more authentic Self, seeing and embracing who you truly are—a divine, gifted being of Light. The witch is why you hold back, what motivates your unhealthy choices, and the belief that you can’t or don’t receive everything you deserve and that life has to offer.
She’s powerful, yes—but only if you forget that you’re divine. That you are whole. That you already have everything you need.
The Scarecrow: Your Intuition & Inner Knowing
We all have that inner compass—your gut feeling, your sacred wisdom. The scarecrow reminds you that you’ve always had the answers inside you.
Each of us has inner guidance telling us what is right and wrong, true or false, and what is for our highest good. Your intuition is always right. The key is identifying it, interpreting it, and applying the information. Allow your intuition to guide you and receive instant solutions and answers, achieving better results, greater happiness, and increased success.
Your level of intuition is directly related to your level of fear. The more you trust your intuition and yourself, the louder it gets, and the better it will work for you. You will start to change as you travel the yellow brick road of healing, growth, and liberation. Over time, you will trust yourself and your intuition more and more. Ultimately, you’ll notice that your life is flowing with remarkable ease.
The Tin Man: Empathy, Compassion & Forgiveness
The heart is the place where healing truly lives. The tin man represents your ability to feel deeply for yourself and others.
Empathy, compassion, seeking to understand, and forgiveness are aspects of the heart. As you travel the yellow brick road, your empathy, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness for yourself deepen. As a result, it deepens for others. Your capacity to give and receive love expands as you connect to your divinity.
The Lion: Courage to Face the Truth
It takes tremendous courage to heal. To look your pain in the eye. To say, “I deserve joy. I deserve peace. I am divine.”
The lion shows us that true courage isn’t about fearlessness—it’s about choosing to face the fear. It’s about remembering who you are and stepping into that truth, even when it feels foreign or uncomfortable. It’s achieved by acknowledging that you are a brilliant and talented human and you belong here. It will feel arrogant, uncomfortable, and flat-out wrong. However, you will release what keeps you from connecting to your divine essence, that spark of Light that is within you.
The Flying Monkeys: Mental Nuisances & Toxic Distractions
Oh, those flying monkeys. They show up as negative thoughts, self-doubt, overthinking, toxic relationships, and stories that keep us small.
They’re sneaky and persistent. But when you see them for what they are—distractions—you take your power back. You will release negative or ruminative thoughts, quiet the chaos, and reclaim your mind.
The Munchkins: Your Circle of Support
You’re not walking alone. The munchkins are your support team—your friends, family, therapist, coach, angels, and spiritual guides. The people and beings who walk beside you and cheer you on.
Healing isn’t meant to be solitary. Let yourself receive help. Lean on those who love you.
The Wizard: The Illusion of External Power
Here’s one of the biggest truths of the journey: No one can save you but you.
We often look for answers outside ourselves, such as in relationships, money, and status. We think we need an outside source or person to save us. But the wizard behind the curtain reminds us that the power has always been ours. It’s time to pull back the curtain and see your strength.
The Ruby Slippers: Truth, Divinity & Power Within
The ruby slippers—your truth. That YOU are the solution. That YOU hold all the power.
When you accept this truth, you slay the witch, hush the monkeys, and pull back the curtain to receive the life you’ve always deserved. You become a channel for light, love, and abundance. Remember: You are Divine.
You don’t even need to click your heels three times. All you need is within YOU. You are DIVINE.
Take a moment to reflect:
- Where are you on your journey?
- Take note of these symbols and their application to your life.
- Which character feels closest to you right now?
- Have you claimed your ruby slippers?
This path isn’t linear. Be gentle with yourself as you walk it. And remember: everything you need is already within you. You are worthy!
